Le don du Saint-Esprit

"Que toute la maison d'Israël sache donc avec certitude que Dieu a fait le même Jésus, que vous avez crucifié, à la fois Seigneur et Christ. Ayant entendu cela, ils eurent le coeur vivement touché, et ils dirent à Pierre et aux autres apôtres : Hommes et frères, que ferons-nous ? Pierre leur dit : Repentez-vous, et que chacun de vous soit baptisé au nom de Jésus-Christ, pour le pardon des péchés, et vous recevrez le don du Saint-Esprit". (Actes 2:36-38)

J'ai remarqué que certaines conversions n'aboutissent à rien ; que si un homme se déclare converti sans conviction de péché, il fait partie de ces auditeurs de pierre qui ne portent pas beaucoup de fruits. La première petite vague de persécution, le premier souffle d'opposition, et l'homme est de retour dans le monde.

Prions pour que Dieu poursuive une œuvre profonde et approfondie, pour que les hommes soient condamnés pour le péché afin qu'ils ne puissent pas se reposer dans l'incrédulité. Prions pour que cette conviction et cette confession commencent dans notre propre église. Je préférerais de loin voir cent hommes complètement convertis, vraiment nés de Dieu, plutôt que de voir mille conversions professées où l'Esprit de Dieu n'a pas condamné de péché.

“Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” (Acts 2:36-38)

One thing I have noticed, that some conversions don’t amount to anything; that if a man professes to be converted without conviction of sin, he is one of those stony-ground hearers who don’t bring forth much fruit. The first little wave of persecution, the first breath of opposition, and the man is back in the world again.

Let us pray that God may carry on a deep and thorough work, that men may be convicted of sin so that they cannot rest in unbelief. Pray that this conviction and confession may begin in our own church. I would a great deal rather see a hundred men thoroughly converted, truly born of God, than to see a thousand professed conversions where the Spirit of God has not convicted of sin.
