Action et réaction

"Et l'Éternel Dieu dit à la femme : Qu'est-ce que tu as fait ? La femme répondit : Le serpent m'a séduite, et j'ai mangé. (Genèse 3:13)

Qu'avait-elle fait ? Elle avait désobéi à Dieu. Elle s'était détournée de la fontaine de la vie pour aller vers la fontaine de la mort, et elle avait bu à cette fontaine. Elle avait introduit le péché dans le monde.

Dieu l'a laissée vivre assez longtemps sur la surface de la terre pour voir ce qu'elle avait fait. Le premier enfant qui est né après la chute était un meurtrier.

Gardez à l'esprit que le péché a sauté dans ce monde en pleine croissance. La femme s'était acquise une nature déchue, et elle l'a transmise à sa postérité. Elle a vécu près de mille ans, si elle a vécu aussi longtemps qu'Adam, et a eu la chance de voir quelque chose de l'indicible malheur et de la misère qu'elle avait introduits dans ce monde.

“And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.”(Genesis 3:13)

What had she done? She had disobeyed God. She had turned from the fountain of life to the fountain of death, and had drunk from that fountain. She had introduced sin into the world.

God let her live long enough on the face of the earth to see what she had done. The first child that was born after the fall was a murderer.

Bear in mind that sin leaped into this world full grown. The woman had gained for herself a fallen nature, and she transmitted it to her posterity. She lived nearly a thousand years if she lived as long as Adam, and had a chance to see something of the untold woe and misery she had introduced into this world.
