Abba, Père !

"Car vous n'avez pas reçu l'esprit de servitude pour la crainte, mais vous avez reçu l'esprit d'adoption, par lequel nous crions : Abba, Père !" (Romains 8:15)

Je tiens à dire très clairement que je n'ai aucune sympathie pour la doctrine de la fraternité universelle, et de la paternité universelle ; je n'en crois pas un mot. Si un homme vit dans la chair et sert la chair, il est un enfant du diable. C'est un langage assez fort, mais c'est ce que le Christ a dit. Il a fait tomber un nid de frelons sur sa tête, et a contribué à le hâter vers la croix, mais c'est néanmoins vrai.

Montrez-moi un homme qui ment, vole, s'enivre et ruine une femme, - dites-moi qu'il est mon frère ! Pas du tout. Il doit naître dans la maison de la foi avant de devenir mon frère en Christ. Il est un étranger, il est étranger à la grâce de Dieu, il est un ennemi de Dieu, il n'est pas un ami. Avant qu'un homme puisse crier "Abba, Père", il doit être né d'en haut, né de l'Esprit.

I want to say very emphatically that I have no sympathy with the doctrine of universal brotherhood, and universal fatherhood; I don't believe one word of it. If a man lives in the flesh and serves the flesh, he is a child of the devil. That is pretty strong language, but it is what Christ said. It brought down a hornet’s nest on His head, and helped to hasten Him to the cross, but nevertheless it is true.

Show me a man that will lie and steal and get drunk and ruin a woman,—do you tell me he is my brother! Not a bit of it. He must be born into the household of faith before he becomes my brother in Christ. He is an alien, he is a stranger to the grace of God, he is an enemy to God, he is not a friend. Before a man can cry, “Abba, Father,” he must be born from above, born of the Spirit.
