Combien de fois ?

Alors Pierre s'approcha de lui et dit : Seigneur, combien de fois mon frère péchera-t-il contre moi, et je lui pardonnerai ? jusqu'à sept fois ? Jésus lui dit : Je ne te dis pas : Jusqu'à sept fois, mais : Jusqu'à soixante-dix fois sept. (Matthieu 28:21-22)

Peter ne semblait pas penser qu'il risquait de tomber dans le péché ; sa question était : "Combien de fois devrais-je pardonner à mon frère ? Mais très vite, nous apprenons que Pierre est tombé. Je peux imaginer que lorsqu'il est tombé, la douce pensée lui est venue de ce que le Maître avait dit.

La voix du péché est peut-être forte, mais la voix du pardon est plus forte.

Then came Peter to Him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. (Matthew 28:21-22)

Peter did not seem to think that he was in danger of falling into sin; his question was, How often should I forgive my brother? But very soon we hear that Peter has fallen. I can imagine that when he did fall, the sweet thought came to him of what the Master had said.

The voice of sin may be loud, but the voice of forgiveness is louder.
