Invoquer Dieu

Il m'invoquera et je lui répondrai. (Psaume 91:15)

Écoutez le prodigue : "Père, j'ai péché !" Cela suffit, le père l'a pris dans son sein. Le passé est aussitôt effacé.

Regardez les hommes le jour de la Pentecôte. Leurs mains dégoulinaient du sang du Fils de Dieu ; ils avaient assassiné Jésus-Christ. Et que leur a dit Pierre ? "Il arrivera que quiconque invoquera le nom du Seigneur sera sauvé."

Regardez le voleur pénitent. Il se peut que lorsqu'un petit garçon, sa mère lui ait appris ce même passage dans Joël : "Il arrivera que quiconque invoquera le nom du Seigneur sera sauvé." Alors qu'il était pendu à la croix, il lui est venu à l'esprit que c'était le Seigneur de la gloire, et bien qu'il soit aux confins de l'enfer, il s'est écrié : "Seigneur, souviens-toi de moi", et la réponse est venue à ce moment-là : "Aujourd'hui, tu seras avec moi au paradis". 

Le matin, aussi noir que l'enfer pouvait le rendre ; le soir, pas une tache ou une ride. Pourquoi ? Parce qu'il a pris Dieu au mot. Pourquoi les hommes douteront-ils de Lui ?

He shall call upon me, and I will answer Him. (Psalm 91:15)

Listen to the prodigal: “Father, I have sinned!” That was enough; the father took him right to his bosom. The past was blotted out at once.

Look at the men on the day of Pentecost. Their hands were dripping with the blood of the Son of God; they had murdered Jesus Christ. And what did Peter say to them? “It shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Look at the penitent thief. It might have been that when a little boy, his mother taught him that same passage in Joel, “It shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” As he hung there on the cross, it flashed into his mind that this was the Lord of glory, and though he was on the very borders of hell, he cried out, “Lord, remember me,” and the answer came right then and there, “This day thou shalt be with Me in paradise.” 

In the morning, as black as hell could make him; in the evening, not a spot or wrinkle. Why? Because he took God at His Word. Why will men doubt Him?
