Or, lorsque la congrégation fut dissoute, beaucoup de juifs et de prosélytes religieux suivirent Paul et Barnabé qui, en leur parlant, les persuadèrent de continuer dans la grâce de Dieu. (Actes 13:43)

Qu'auraient accompli Paul et Barnabé s'ils avaient prononcé la bénédiction et renvoyé ces personnes chez elles ? C'est une chose de pleurer sur le fait que nous avons des milliers et des milliers de membres d'église qui ne sont bons à rien pour étendre le royaume de Dieu. 

Ils comprennent les bazars, les foires et les cercles de couture ; mais quand vous leur demandez de s'asseoir et de montrer à un homme ou à une femme le chemin du royaume de Dieu, ils disent

"Oh, je ne suis pas capable de faire cela. Laissez les diacres le faire, ou quelqu'un d'autre".

Tout cela est faux. L'Église doit être éduquée sur ce point précis. Il y a beaucoup de membres de l'Église qui ne font que béquiller. Ils peuvent simplement faire croire qu'ils sont sauvés, et imaginer que c'est tout ce qui constitue un chrétien en ce XIXe siècle.

En ce qui concerne l'aide aux autres, cela ne leur vient jamais à l'esprit. Ils pensent que s'ils peuvent s'entendre, ils s'en sortent étonnamment bien. Ils n'ont aucune idée de ce que le Saint-Esprit veut faire à travers eux.

Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.(Acts 13:43)

How much would Paul and Barnabas have accomplished if they had pronounced the benediction and sent these people home? It is a thing to weep over that we have got thousands and thousands of church-members who are good for nothing toward extending the kingdom of God. 

They understand bazaars, and fairs, and sewing-circles; but when you ask them to sit down and show a man or woman the way into God’s kingdom, they say:

“Oh, I am not able to do that. Let the deacons do it, or some one else.”

It is all wrong. The Church ought to be educated on this very point. There are a great many church-members who are just hobbling about on crutches. They can just make out that they are saved, and imagine that is all that constitutes a Christian in this nineteenth century.

As far as helping others is concerned, that never enters their heads. They think if they can get along themselves, they are doing amazingly well. They have no idea what the Holy Ghost wants to do through them.
