En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, si un grain de blé ne tombe pas en terre et ne meurt pas, il reste seul ; mais s'il meurt, il donne beaucoup de fruit. (Jean 12:24)

Prenez une petite graine de fleur noire et semez-la ; après l'avoir plantée quelque temps, déterrez-la. Si elle est entière, vous savez qu'elle n'a pas de vie ; mais si elle a commencé à pourrir, vous savez que la vie et la fécondité suivront. Il y aura une vie ressuscitée, et de cette petite graine noire sortira une belle fleur parfumée.

Voici une larve dégoûtante, rampant sur le sol. La vieillesse la rattrape, et elle commence à faire tourner son propre linceul, à faire son propre sépulcre, et elle gît comme dans la mort. Regardez à nouveau, et il s'est débarrassé de son linceul, il a fait éclater son sépulcre, et il en sort un beau papillon, avec une forme et des habitudes différentes.

Ainsi, avec nos corps. Ils meurent, mais Dieu nous donnera des corps glorifiés à leur place. C'est la loi de la nouvelle création comme de l'ancienne : la lumière après les ténèbres, la vie après la mort, la fécondité et la gloire après la corruption et la décadence.

Take a little black flower seed and sow it; after it has been planted some time, dig it up. If it is whole you know that it has no life; but if it has begun to decay, you know that life and fruitfulness will follow. There will be a resurrected life, and out of that little black seed will come a beautiful fragrant flower.

Here is a disgusting grub, crawling along the ground. By and by old age overtakes it, and it begins to spin its own shroud, to make its own sepulchre, and it lies as if in death. Look again, and it has shuffled off its shroud, it has burst its sepulchre open, and it comes forth a beautiful butterfly, with different form and habits.

So with our bodies. They die, but God will give us glorified bodies in their stead. This is the law of the new creation as well as of the old: light after darkness: life after death: fruitfulness and glory after corruption and decay.
