Destruction soudaine

"Lot sortit et parla à ses gendres, qui avaient épousé ses filles, et dit : Debout, sortez de ce lieu, car l'Éternel va détruire cette ville. Mais il parut comme quelqu'un qui se moque de ses gendres." (Genèse 19:14)

Le Sauveur nous dit qu'ils mangeaient et buvaient, achetaient et vendaient, plantaient et construisaient ; tout continuait comme d'habitude. Sodome n'a jamais été aussi prospère que maintenant. Il n'y a aucun signe d'un jugement à venir, aucun signe que Sodome va être brûlée.

Le soleil brillait aussi fort la veille de sa destruction qu'il avait brillé pendant des années. Les étoiles brillaient peut-être dans les cieux comme jamais auparavant, et la lune projetait sa lumière sur la ville.

sur la ville ; mais les gendres de Lot se moquaient de lui, il ne pouvait pas les faire sortir. Je le vois traverser les rues, la tête baissée, et de grosses larmes coulant sur ses joues. Interrogez-le maintenant sur sa vie, et il vous dira que c'est un échec total. Il retourne chez lui, et tôt le matin, les anges doivent le prendre presque de force et le faire sortir de la ville. Il ne pouvait pas supporter l'idée de laisser périr ceux qu'il aimait, alors que Dieu jugeait cette ville.

N'est-ce pas là une image fidèle de centaines et de milliers de personnes à l'heure actuelle ? Avez-vous essayé d'accumuler des richesses au détriment de vos enfants, si bien qu'aujourd'hui, ils élèvent la voix contre votre Dieu, contre votre Bible et contre vous ? Ils ne se soucient pas de vos sentiments ; ne les foulent-ils pas aux pieds ? Peut-être que beaucoup de parents sont partis dans la tombe, et que les enfants dilapident maintenant ce que leurs parents ont récolté. Quel exemple nous avons dans le cas de Lot, et comme cela devrait ouvrir les yeux de beaucoup d'hommes d'affaires, et leur faire comprendre que leur vie sera un désastre total s'ils emmènent leurs enfants dans le jugement de Sodome quand le jugement viendra.

“And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons-in-law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.” (Gen 19:14)

The Saviour tells us they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building; all went on as usual. Sodom was never more prosperous than now. There is no sign of a coming judgment; no sign that Sodom is going to be burnt up.

The sun shone as brightly the day before its destruction as it had shone for years. The stars perhaps were glittering in the heavens as brightly as ever, and the moon threw her light down

upon the city; but Lot’s sons-in-law mocked him, be couldn't get them out. I see him going through the streets with his head bowed down, and great tears trickling down his cheeks. Ask him now about his life, and he will tell you it has been a total failure. He goes back to his home; and early in the morning the angels have to take him almost by force, and hasten him out of the city. He could not bear the thought of leaving his loved ones there to perish, while God dealt in judgment with that city.

Is not that a fair picture of hundreds and thousands at the present time? Have you been trying to accumulate wealth even to the neglect of your children, so that to-day they are lifting up their voices against your God, and against your Bible, and against you? They do not care for your feelings; are they not trampling them under their feet? Perhaps many of the parents have gone to their graves, and the children are now squandering what their parents gathered. What an example we have in the case of Lot, and how it ought to open the eyes of many a business man, and cause him to see that his life is going to be a total wreck if he takes his children into Sodom’s judgment when the judgment comes.
