Un si grand amour

Dieu a tellement aimé le monde qu'il a donné son Fils unique, afin que quiconque croit en lui ne périsse pas, mais ait la vie éternelle. (Jean 3:16)

Je n'ai jamais été capable de prêcher à partir de ce texte. J'ai souvent pensé que je le ferais, mais il est si haut que je ne peux jamais monter à sa hauteur, je viens de le citer et de le transmettre. Qui peut sonder la profondeur de ces mots : "Dieu a tant aimé le monde" ? Nous ne pouvons jamais escalader les hauteurs de Son amour ni en sonder les profondeurs. Paul a prié pour connaître la hauteur, la profondeur, la longueur et la largeur de l'amour de Dieu, mais il ne l'a pas encore découvert.

God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)

I have never been able to preach from that text. I have often thought I would, but it is so high that I can never climb to its height, I have just quoted it and passed on. Who can fathom the depth of those words: “God so loved the world”? We can never scale the heights of His love or fathom its depths. Paul prayed that he might know the height, the depth, the length, and the breadth, of the love of God; but it was past his finding out.
