Un échec ?

Ainsi sera Ma parole qui sortira de Ma bouche ; elle ne reviendra pas vers Moi sans effet, mais elle accomplira ce que Je veux, et elle réussira dans ce que Je lui ai envoyé. (Esaïe 55:11)

Parfois, il semble que les serviteurs de Dieu échouent. Lorsque Hérode a décapité Jean-Baptiste, il semble que la mission de Jean ait été un échec. Mais l'était-elle ? La voix qui a résonné dans la vallée du Jourdain résonne aujourd'hui dans le monde entier. On peut encore entendre son écho sur les montagnes et les vallées : "Je dois diminuer, mais Lui doit augmenter." Il a soutenu Jésus-Christ et l'a présenté au monde, et Hérode n'avait pas le pouvoir de le décapiter avant que l'œuvre de sa vie ne soit accomplie.

Étienne n'a jamais prêché qu'un seul sermon à notre connaissance, et c'était avant le Sanhédrin ; mais comme ce sermon a été prêché encore et encore dans le monde entier ! De sa mort est probablement sorti Paul, le plus grand prédicateur que le monde ait jamais vu depuis que le Christ a quitté cette terre. Si un homme est envoyé par Jéhovah, l'échec n'existe pas.

Sometimes it looks as if God’s servants fail. When Herod beheaded John the Baptist, it looked as if John’s mission was a failure. But was it? The voice that rang through the valley of the Jordan rings through the whole world to-day. You can hear its echo upon the mountains and the valleys yet, “I must decrease, but He must increase." He held up Jesus Christ and introduced Him to the world, and Herod had not power to behead Him until His life-work had been accomplished.

Stephen never preached but one sermon that we know of, and that was before the Sanhedrim; but how that sermon has been preached again and again all over the world! Out of his death probably came Paul, the greatest preacher the world has seen since Christ left this earth. If a man is sent by Jehovah, there is no such thing as failure.
