Une bénédiction

Je ferai de toi une grande nation, je te bénirai et je rendrai ton nom grand, et tu seras une bénédiction (Genèse 12:2)

Il n'y a pas de nom dans l'histoire aussi connu que le nom d'Abram. Même le Christ n'est pas plus connu, car les Mohammediens, les Perses et les Egyptiens font grand cas d'Abram. Son nom a été pendant des siècles et des siècles favorablement connu à Damas. Dieu lui a promis que de grands hommes sortiraient de ses reins. Y a-t-il jamais eu une nation qui ait produit de tels hommes ? 

Pensez à Moïse, et Joseph, et Josué, et Caleb, et Samuel, et David, et Salomon, et Elisha. Pensez à Élie, à Daniel, à Ésaïe et à tous les autres merveilleux personnages de la Bible qui sont nés de cet homme ! Pensez ensuite à Jean-Baptiste, à Pierre, à Jacques, à Jean et à Paul, une armée puissante. 

Personne ne peut compter la multitude d'hommes merveilleux qui ont surgi de cet homme unique appelé du pays des Chaldéens, inconnu et idolâtre, probablement, lorsque Dieu l'a appelé ; et pourtant comment Dieu a littéralement accompli Sa promesse que par lui Il bénirait toutes les nations de la terre. Tout cela parce qu'il s'est livré entièrement et complètement pour laisser Dieu le bénir.

There is no name in history so well known as the name of Abram. Even Christ is not more widely known, for the Mohammedans, the Persians, and the Egyptians make a great deal of Abram. His name has been for centuries and centuries favorably known in Damascus. God promised him that great men should spring from his loins. Was there ever a nation that has turned out such men? 

Think of Moses, and Joseph, and Joshua, and Caleb, and Samuel, and David, and Solomon, and Elisha. Think of Elijah, and Daniel, and Isaiah, and all the other wonderful Bible characters that have sprung from this man! Then think of John the Baptist, of Peter, of James, and John, and Paul, a mighty army. 

No one can number the multitude of wonderful men that have sprung from this one man called out of the land of the Chaldeans, unknown and an idolater, probably, when God called him; and yet how literally God has fulfilled His promise that through him He would bless all the nations of the earth. All because he surrendered himself fully and wholly to let God bless him.
